We went to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina for our baby girl #2 babymoon. I’m having another hard pregnancy, and this trip was just what we needed.
We flew from St. Louis to Savannah and then drove on to Hilton Head from there. Hilton Head does have its own airport, but those flights can be pretty pricy. We were planning on renting a car anyway, so we just took the cheaper flight into Savannah and ended up having a lovely dinner at Boar’s Head on Historic River Street in Savannah that night. Hilton Head was just over an hour’s drive from there.
While in Hilton Head, we took a private boat ride and that was probably our favorite experience of the whole trip. We went at sunset and were able to see some of the outer islands, lots of dolphins, and the different areas of Hilton Head. We even got out and went swimming for a bit.
We went to both Coligny Beach and Burkes Beach while we were there. Coligny was fun but very touristy and a bit crowded. There are a lot of restaurants and things to do around Coligny Beach so it’s easy to grab a quick lunch somewhere close. Burkes Beach had much easier parking and was more quiet and relaxed. It’s a bit off by itself though, so maybe pack some snacks that day if you think you might get hungry.
We went to Harbour Town one afternoon which is where the iconic Hilton Head lighthouse is. You have to pay a fee to enter the town, but once you are in, there are shopping, restaurants, and ice cream shops. The center of the town circles a marina, so you can walk around and look at the different boats too. The lighthouse is a working lighthouse, and you can even climb to the top.
Our favorite restaurant of the trip was The Old Oyster Factory. Make sure you go while it’s still light out so that you can get a view of the beautiful creek. The restaurant has great drinks, food, and of course oysters. It is built on the site of an original oyster cannery. You would never know though because the inside is just lovely.
