Missouri Weekend Getaway Ideas

I’ve lived in Missouri my whole life, and I love it. It’s a beautiful Midwestern state with so much to do. I love getting away for the weekend, and it’s great to not have to travel far to have a mini vacation. Here are a few ideas if you live in Missouri, or near Missouri, and want a quick weekend getaway.

Lake Of The Ozarks

Lake Of The Ozarks

The Lake of the Ozarks will really make you feel like you’re on vacation. There are great resorts to stay at, and there are also beautiful lake houses to rent if you are going for a more homey feel. There is both fine dining and lake bars to visit, depending on what sounds good that day. Water taxis are a fun way to get around if you want to travel by water. There are also lots of places to rent boats if you’d like to spend a day on the water (which I highly recommend). Party cove is a hot spot if you’re wanting a party scene. Just don’t bring the kids there. 😉

To me, Trout Lodge is kind of like “glamping.” You get all of the fun of camping without having to stay in an incky tent or prepare your own meals. You can either stay at the main lodge or rent a family sized cabin. Both include three meals a day at the buffet, which is delicious. There are tons of optional activities that include boat rides, ropes courses, a zipline, rock climbing, horseback riding, arts and crafts and more.

Innsbrook Resort is similar to Trout Lodge in that it has a “glamping” vibe. It is located on a beautiful lake and offers boating, golfing, nature trails, and horseback rides. It also has a large pool available in the summer. It’s Clubhouse Bar & Grille has a great casual dining experience.

Branson

There is so much to do in Branson! You can go to any of it’s many shows, visit beautiful Table Rock Lake or check out the Silver Dollar City Theme Park. It really depends what you’re looking for. If you go, be sure to Ride The Ducks. The land-to-water vehicle takes you on a tour of the city before driving into Table Rock lake and giving you a boat tour of the lake.

Hermann

Stone Hill Winery

I love Hermann! It is a small German winery town in central Missouri that is perfect for romantic getaways and bachelorette parties. The Inn at Hermanoff and local bed and breakfasts are popular places to stay. There is a trolley service that can take you around to the many different wineries so that you don’t have to drive. The scenery is beautiful, and you’ll be glad you went!

Downtown St. Louis

Forrest Park

Ah, my hometown. There is so much to do in St. Louis. I don’t even know where to start. The St. Louis Zoo is great … and free! The Missouri History Museum is another favorite of mine and it is also free. The City Museum is fun, although it is mainly for kids. If it’s nice outside, you have to take a walk around Forest Park. It’s gorgeous! The Fox always has some great shows, and The Muny is awesome in the summer. You may need more than a weekend for all of that!

The Plaza, Kansas City

Carriage Ride On The Plaza

I have made several weekend trips to Kansas City and always have such a great time! My all time favorite activity I’ve done is taken a carriage ride around The Plaza. It was so romantic and fun! I’ve mainly stayed at the Plaza when visiting Kansas City. It’s nice to be able to walk to so many great shops and restaurants. The Plaza has a lot of events throughout the year, so depending on when you go, you may be able to catch a Plaza Live! Courtyard Concert.
