Sarasota, Florida is heaven on earth! The beautiful beaches, the scenic inland, the wonderful atmosphere – what else could you look for in a family vacation? I grew up going to Sarasota as a kid, but I hadn’t been since. I was able to go along with my parents, hubby, and one-year-old, and stay with my aunt at her condo. We had the best time!
Brown’s Grove – Orange Picking
We went orange picking at Brown’s Grove for a fun family activity. They have specific days where you can go pick your own citrus fruits and even get a tour of the farm on a tractor-drawn wagon ride. “Farmer Brown” gives the tours and gives all sorts of educational tidbits about citrus farming and the fruit itself. There is also a small farmers market at the grove, so you can pick up some other freshly grown produce while you are there.
Siesta Key Beach
We absolutely loved Siesta Key Beach. Siesta Key Beach or just “Siesta Beach” is located on the Siesta Key in Sarasota. It has been rated the #1 beach in America by TripAdvisor, and I have to agree with its ranking. The sand is powdery soft, and it doesn’t get too hot in the sun because it is made of quartz. The waves are very soft, which is perfect for swimming, and it won’t knock over your kiddos. It has a large parking lot, so it is easy to get to. There is even a playground right in front of the beach – which my little one just loved!
Atmosphere
Downtown Sarasota, Siesta Key Village, and nearby St. Armands all offer many fun places to shop and eat. We enjoyed just walking around each of the different hot spots and popping in and out of the local shops.
